Before the printing of the first Danish wrappers, the 2 skilling wrappers, a single proof sheet containing 6 wrappers was printed in red colour. Here, one of the 6 red proofs ever made is offered.

Insufficiently prepaid wrapper sent to Argentina 05/May/1896 paying only the standard UPU rate for printed matters, 5 øre. However, Denmark charged a 100% overseas surcharge on printed matters sent to all destinations outside Europe, North America and North Africa. Rate: Overseas UPU printed matter 10 øre 01/Apr/1879-31/Dec/1898. The missing overseas surcharge 5 øre was converted to 5 centimes, which was double and converted to 6 centavos (red marking) on arrival in Argentina and charged postage due.
